A CPC4 Module - cover removed. With multiple microprocessors, repairs are beyond the scope of DIY tools.

Whether you are a fleet operator or an owner-operator, a truck with a bad CPC4 Module isn’t earning its keep. Be it a dump truck, school bus, box truck, or utility truck, a parked fleet truck is never good for business. While technology has improved commercial truck reliability and efficiency, the same technology can also put the brakes on your workday when it fails. If it's the CPC4 module, repairing the existing unit is almost always a better alternative to buying and configuring a replacement part.

What is a CPC4 Module?

The CPC4 serves as the interface between the MCM (Motor Control Module) and various vehicle functions, including the instrument cluster, accelerator, brake pedal, transmission, cruise control, and brake switches. In essence, it acts as the main switchboard, enabling seamless communication between different computer modules throughout the vehicle. A lot of important vehicle functions pass through one CPC4 module, making it a critical part of your truck.

What Goes Wrong?

Usually, the CPC4 is tucked inside the dashboard behind the upper center panel. While the module itself is located in a safe area away from the elements, it isn’t the environment that causes CPC4s to fail. Original component design is almost always the cause for CPC4 module failure. After studying and repairing hundreds of failed CPC4 modules, UpFix has determined that excessive conformal coating on the circuit board is the main culprit. An excessive conformal coating layer reduces circuit component lifespan, which is ironic considering this coating is supposed to protect the module and provide a long service life.

Signs of a Failed CPC4 Module

A bad CPC4 module can manifest in several ways. Here are the most obvious issues you can observe from behind the steering wheel:

  • Engine No-Start
  • No Response from the Accelerator Pedal
  • "Check Engine" Light Is On
  • "DEF" Light Stays On
  • "ABS" Light Stays On

Hooking up a diagnostic tool after noticing any of the above problems you will likely encounter the following trouble codes:

  • SPN 609/FMI 12 CPC Hardware Failure
  • SPN 3510/FMI 4 Accelerator Pedal Supply Voltage Failed Low
  • SPN 2623/FMI 8 Accelerator Pedal Signal 2 Missing
  • SPN 91/FMI 8 Accelerator Pedal Signal 1 Missing

If any of these sound familiar, then your CPC4 has taken a hike. Luckily UpFix can repair Common Powertrain Controller Modules (CPC4) on the following vehicles:

Why Choose an UpFix CPC4 Module Repair?

Taking a moment to price out a new CPC4 module clearly shows it is a very expensive part. Even if you try to save money by buying a (hopefully) good, used CPC4, it’s only a matter of time before it fails in the exact same way as your current module. Beyond hardware costs there also are costs for programming a new or used module to your specific vehicle. That’s right, your CPC4 is VIN-encoded from the factory and won't work unless everything matches up. So what to do? Send it to UpFix!

Since UpFix starts with your original, matching VIN-encoded CPC4 module there are no issues with programming. You get your original CPC4 module back, ready for plug-and-play installation, but now it is completely rebuilt and ready to go.

UpFix uses high-tech BGA machines to position and secure replacement microprocessors in CPC4 Modules.
