C5 Corvette History, Specs and Stats
Introduced in 1997, the C5 Corvette was a major upgrade from the outgoing model. With a new 345 horsepower LS1 5.7L V8 engine and a rear-mounted transmission (transaxle), the C5 Corvette offered perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Later on in 2001, fire-breathing Z06 models hit the road in 2001 with 385 horsepower and a host of performance modifications that made it a real track day beast.
With a production total of over 248K cars built, the C5 Corvette had an impressive seven-year run. According to Hagerty Valuation Tools, a base 2001 Corvette hardtop in excellent condition will set you back $27,500 and we have seen decent cars go for way less. A 2001 C5 Corvette Z06 in excellent condition is valued at $31,200.

The C5 Corvette is a good-looking car with bodywork that seems as though it is stretched over its wide performance tires. Coupe, convertible and "FRC" fixed roof coupe models are available depending on the year of manufacture with an FRC Z06 topping the range for both performance and collectability. As far as value is concerned, C5 Corvette prices are tempered by the availability of newer, more advanced C6 and C7 Corvettes. But if you are willing to service a few age-related problems and make a few upgrades, the C5 Corvette delivers an awesome bang for your buck.
C5 Corvette Door Lock Module Function and Issues
Though commonly referred to as the "Door Lock Module", a more accurate name is the "C5 Corvette Door Lock and Window Control Module". The power door window lock module controls the power windows and power door locks. There are two per vehicle such that each door has a power door lock module mounted to the door itself. The unit is located behind the door trim panel near the audio speakers. Pushing the door lock button or power window switch sends a signal to the power door window lock module, which then determines what function to operate. The remote key fob also operates the power door window lock module.
Signs Of A Failing C5 Corvette Door Lock Module
When a power door window lock module goes bad, it may fail all at once or fail intermittently. Here are the signs of a failed power door window lock module:
- Power windows do not work
- Power door locks do not work
- No response to the wireless key fob
These are the most common problems we’ve found with the 1997-2004 C5 Corvette power door window lock modules, but other issues could also be linked to module failure.
Make sure to first rule out simple problems before sending your door window lock module for repair. Locate the fuse box in the passenger side floorboard area and check fuses 30, 31, 33, and 34. Each door has its own fuses, so check each one individually. If all are okay, examine the door wiring. Each door has a wiring harness that passes through the door jamb into the door and broken or loose wires can cause problems. If the wiring and fuses are okay, then you are likely facing a failed power door window lock module.

What Goes Wrong with Power Door Window Lock Module?
Like many automakers, GM simplified wiring by placing components together in purpose-built modules. In this case, the functions of the power windows and power door locks are handled by an integrated module. Unfortunately, this means that once common replacement items like relays are now buried inside the module. For the C5 Corvette power door window lock module there are four relays soldered to the main board that are failure prone. When these go bad, you are left with stuck power windows and broken power door locks.
Why Choose UpFix To Repair Your Power Door Window Lock Module?
Back when these Corvettes were new or only a few years old, a dealership would just order a new module and replace the entire part. These modules are no longer available and were never meant to be serviced by the vehicle owner (like a blown fuse). Scrounging for a pricey, used module will likely mean yet another failed unit, and wasted time and money. The most logical solution is sending in your original module for refurbishment by UpFix.
At UpFix our team of highly trained technicians have earned IPC, J-STD, and General PCB troubleshooting certifications. We use specialized BGA rework stations for pinpoint control while repairing your module. Each repair uses Weller soldering irons for precise control and solid connections. Your module will go through a complete diagnostic to find any issues, then repair those problems with upgraded components. If your module is not the source of the problem or if it is too damaged to repair – you will only have to pay shipping costs. In some cases an additional $39.99 bench test fee may be applied depending on the situation.
The process is easy. Carefully remove your original power door window lock module and place your order. Then follow the shipping directions found here. Since your original module is being repaired, there is no core deposit required. The repair takes only a few days and since it is your own original module it will be ready to plug-and-play.
