In 2006, Vitaly Sandyrev and Ernest Martynyuk were working with vehicles purchased at auction to repair and resell. The economics were familiar to anyone who has rebuilt a vehicle, operated a small dealership, or tried to bring a damaged car back to useful life: every decision had to protect the budget without sacrificing the quality of the final result.
Mechanical and body repairs were often understandable. Electronic failures created a different kind of obstacle.
A failed instrument cluster or ABS module could turn an otherwise promising vehicle into an expensive question mark. New replacement parts could cost more than the project could justify. Used parts came with unknown histories and possible compatibility or programming concerns. In some cases, the original unit contained information or configuration that made keeping it especially valuable.
The obvious market answer was replacement. The better question was: Why replace the whole unit if the actual failure can be found and repaired?
That question became UpFix.
Built from the customer's side of the counter
Because UpFix grew from the experience of rebuilding vehicles, the company understood the customer's calculation from the beginning.
A rebuilder is not simply asking, “Can this part be repaired?” The full question is:
- Can the vehicle be completed profitably?
- Can the original configuration be preserved where applicable?
- Can the risk of another unknown used part be avoided?
- Can the work be completed correctly without creating another problem later?
- Can the customer or future owner trust the result?
That perspective shaped the early focus on instrument clusters and anti-lock brake modules. These were not random service categories. They were recurring barriers faced by real customers trying to make good vehicles useful again.
Saving money was never supposed to mean cutting corners
There is an important difference between lowering a customer's cost and lowering the standard of the work.
The UpFix idea was to create savings by avoiding unnecessary replacement, not by doing less. That requires diagnosis, appropriate repair methods, quality components, category-specific knowledge, and testing suited to the unit.
The same principle still applies today:

One customer problem led to a broader repair-first mission
The first need appeared in automotive electronics, but the underlying problem was much larger.
A dishwasher can become unusable because one control board fails. A treadmill can sit idle because its electronics are no longer available. A production machine can stop because a VFD, PLC, or servo controller is obsolete or backordered. The industries are different, but the customer experiences the same frustration: a small electronic failure threatens the value of a much larger system.
That is why UpFix expanded across automotive, appliance, fitness, and industrial electronics. The categories changed. The belief did not.
One failed electronic part should not automatically retire everything around it.
The best industry ideas often begin with firsthand frustration
Customers can recognize when a company understands their problem from experience. The language is different. The priorities are different. The company thinks beyond the individual repair and sees the customer's budget, schedule, risk, and final outcome.
UpFix's origin matters because it explains the decisions that followed:
- Keep the original part in service when repair is appropriate.
- Look for the root cause rather than making assumptions from the symptom.
- Develop services around real, repeated customer needs.
- Help customers understand repair well enough to consider vehicles and equipment others may dismiss too quickly.
- Make repair a practical first option instead of a last resort.
UpFix has changed significantly since 2006, but the company is still solving the same essential problem its founders faced at the beginning.
A useful vehicle, appliance, fitness machine, or piece of industrial equipment should not be discarded simply because one electronic assembly failed.
