Removal Instructions:
In order to send your ABS Module to
UpFix
for repair, you will need to remove the module from your vehicle. Every vehicle’s year, make and model is a little different, so we’ve provided a general removal guide below to assist you in getting your ABS module removed quickly and easily.
Step 1: Locate the ABS Module
The ABS module in most cars should be located on the driver’s side front corner of the engine compartment. The hard brake lines should be attached to the unit, which should help you
locate your car’s module. If you have any trouble finding it, your car’s owner’s manual should have a diagram, or you can easily find a diagram of your car online.
Step 2: Disconnect the Negative Battery Cable
To avoid damaging the electrical components of your vehicle, you will need to disconnect the negative battery cable.
Step 3: Disconnect the Wiring
Depending on your vehicle’s
year
, make and model, this wiring will vary, but should be generally simple to remove. You may have to remove the electrical harness, which houses all of the power and sensors for the module, as part of the wiring. Simply unplug the remaining wires and tuck them to the side of the module. Make sure all wiring is disconnected to ensure the module isn’t damaged upon removal.
Step 4: Remove the Mounting Bolts
The tools you use to remove the mounting bolts will vary according to the types and sizes of the bolts on your vehicle, so you may have to experiment to find which tools work. Once you’ve found the correct tool, loosen and remove the bolts on the module. There’s a chance the bolts will be rusted, so make sure that your tool fits as closely as possible to prevent stripping the bolts.
Step 5: Remove the Module
Once the wiring and mounting bolts have been removed, you are free to remove your ABS module. Gently remove it from the ABS system and send it to

Removal
Can I still drive my car with the ABS module removed?
Most vehicles allow you to drive without your ABS module. Before ABS was invented in the 1990’s, all cars drove without it. Because most people are accustomed to using ABS, you will need to drive with extra caution, especially in rainy weather or on slick roads. Braking responsiveness is slower/delayed and therefore braking takes more space and more distance is required to ensure safe braking. Please be careful!
I can’t find my ABS module. What should I do?
Every ABS module is different per the year, make and model, so check your owner’s manual or look online for a diagram. Generally, the ABS module is located in the driver’s side front corner of the engine compartment.
