IPC Certification: What Does It Mean and Why Is It Important?

In your search for the right electronic automotive repair provider, it can be difficult to tell who stands by their guarantees and offers a cost-effective solutions. Online reviews can be a helpful indicator of who to trust when it comes to your vehicle, but there is only one way to know if you’ll receive quality repairs. Founded in 1957, the Institute of Printed Circuits (IPC) is a standard by which all electronic repair industries are held. If an electronic automotive repair shop does not hold IPC certification, and stand by its promise that all technicians are IPC-certified, then it’s time to look elsewhere. At UpFix.com, we take pride in the quality and efficiency of our repair services. Each of our technicians has full IPC certification, and we are also proud members of the Automotive Service Association (ASA).

What Does It Take to Be IPC-Certified?

Because the IPC creates the standards for electronic assembly and manufacturing, they don’t hand out certifications to just anyone. In order to be IPC-certified, you must first take a standardized course in different skill areas, including soldering, handling of electronic assemblies, component installation, cleanliness of assemblies and more. After this course, all applicants for IPC certification are required to take a test that measures their abilities, and pass with a score of at least 80 percent. Because this qualification is so difficult to achieve, the IPC certification shows measurable skill and mastery of the IPC electronic standards.
